About Altec
The origins of the association can be found in the Latin American Meeting for the Management of Technological Innovation promoted by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Brazil, which was held in October 1983, at the facilities of the University of São Paulo in Brazil. At that meeting, the state of the art on technological innovation in Latin America was examined and mechanisms and measures were proposed for its revitalization, with emphasis on the integration of the productive sector with the research efforts carried out in specialized institutes of scientific-technological infrastructure and at universities (Galante and Pérez, 2008).
“The favorable experience of the meeting stimulated to multiply the observations, analysis and conclusions of the diverse problems of the scientific and technological development of the countries of the Latin American region. The results obtained in this exercise and in other similar ones indicated the convenience of institutionalizing exchanges, meetings and collaboration between the various study and training centers established in Latin American countries, for the solution of the various problems of the administration of science and technology. technology. Based on these conclusions, the creation of a flexible association made up of interested persons and institutions was proposed, in order to better face the problem agenda that included issues of increasing complexity, such as the financing of science and technology, the advancement of science-based industries, the advancement of science and technology themselves, and the linking of industry and technology policies and plans at the macro and microeconomic levels, among others.
On these bases, the association was founded and in September 1985 the First Latin American ALTEC Seminar was held at the University of São Paulo. In it the partners debated, approved the statutes and agreed on the priorities of the association during the following two years. From that moment on, every two years, uninterruptedly, the association meetings called initially Seminars and later, Technology Management Congresses are held. Over time, the ALTEC meetings have become the most important academic event of the discipline in Latin America ”(González, et al., 2013).
